I chose to illustrate King Olav V,
who was King of Norway from 21 September 1957 until 1991.

While king Olav V reigned, the Norwegian King’s Guard appointed a king penguin, Brigadier Sir Nils Olav III, as a mascot and
colonel-in-chief. The name 'Nils Olav' and associated ranks have been passed down through three king penguins since
1972 – the current holder being Nils Olav III.

It was poignant to imagine this odd meeting
between the two Olavs, a king penguin with military rank and an actual Norwegian king.
